Meet Cara Vernal
Meet Cara Vernal
Cara has a love for lifelong learning. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Specializing in Literacy.
Cara is also a new board member of the Central YMCA of Youngstown. She is most excited to serve on this board to help continue fundraising efforts and growth at her favorite place, Camp Fitch!
Meet Trista Houck
Trista grew up in Salem, Ohio and is currently doing construction on her new house. 2023 is her year as she is newly engaged and expecting a baby in the Spring.
In addition to teaching Kindermusik, Trista has been a middle childhood educator for 11 years, and at South Range for 5 years. Through her experience in education and researching methods that enhance student development, she’s found endless benefits from incorporating music into the classroom. Trista has a Master’s degree in Technology and currently working towards her administration license.
Meet Toni Meese
Toni grew up in Austintown and was a 3rd grade teacher for 7 years until she became a stay-at-home mom. She has 2 beautiful girls, a 4 and 1 year old, and is married to her high school sweetheart. Toni has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Masters in Children’s Literacy.
Young children and their education, growth, and development has always been a passion of hers. Toni even sang in concert choir throughout school and always tried to incorporate music into her classroom when teaching (who knew singing multiplication skip counting songs could help so much)! These are all the reasons why VLM with Kindermusik was so appealing. Toni and her oldest daughter enrolled in classes when she was just 5 months old and they were hooked! She is thrilled to now join the program as an educator and to share its many benefits with you and your families.
Meet Taylor Phillips
Ms. Taylor grew up in Austintown, Ohio and is a recent graduate from Youngstown State University. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education, as well as her TESOL licensure. Taylor wanted to become a teacher to help all students regardless of backgrounds and abilities succeed in learning. Her biggest wish as a classroom teacher is that her students feel loved, accepted, and confident.
Taylor currently teaches Kindergarten at Youngstown Community School. She loves using music throughout her day to help teach the core curriculum. Her students respond well to music incorporated with math and language arts skills, and they love singing hello to each other in the mornings to establish the start of a great day.
Taylor has always had a love of music and was a three year member of the Austintown Fitch Concert Choir, an audition-only ensemble that uses its combined talents to travel the U.S. and entertain those who have served. In her time in the Concert Choir, Taylor traveled to Nashville, Chicago, and Norfolk Veterans Hospitals to share talents to those who have given their all for our freedom. When she graduated high school, she knew she had to continue singing in college and helped establish as well as lead the only co-ed A Cappella group at YSU: The Pella Penguins.
Ms. Taylor is Disney obsessed and was a cast member at Walt Disney World Resorts in 2019 as a hand selected participant in the Disney College Program! She worked in E.P.C.O.T. for festivals, then transferred to Magic Kingdom. She loves creating happiness and magic for children and families, and carries a lot of her training with the Walt Disney Company with her in her current teaching practices.
Taylor currently lives in Boardman with her 3 cats: Ursula, Ariel, and Alice, as well as her longtime boyfriend Andrew.
Meet Stephanie Saville
Stephanie has a Master’s degree in Child and Family Studies and a Master’s in Social Work. She’s worked with children and families in various capacities from foster care, in child care programs and preschools, to consultant work and training. She is a super mom to three beautiful and energetic daughters and is married to her college sweetheart.
When it comes to Kindermusik, Ms. Stephanie appreciates the playfulness that it engages grownups in with their children and the one on one time. She believes music is a vital tool for helping children learn and master developmental skills that will prepare them for school and life!
When Ms. Stephanie isn’t at VLM, you can find her helping with the PTA, working on the swim club board, at all of her daughter’s activities, and so on!
Meet Katie Toy
Katie has a Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a Minor in Sociology, which explains her love of being around people!
22 years ago, Ms. Katie took a #Kindermusik class with her daughter and fell in love with the program. She knew she would be an asset to the VLM team as she herself was a Kindermusik mom and saw the benefits on her own children.
Katie loves attending her children’s sports competitions, reading, and traveling with her family.
